Difference Day 03 MAY 2015

http://www.bozar.be

In 1993 the United Nations General Assembly declared May 3rd to be World Press Freedom

Day. The day is meant to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and

remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression

enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day the Brussels Platform for Journalism (a joint

initiative of Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Université Libre de Bruxelles and Erasmushogeschool

Brussel), BOZAR AGORA, Evens Foundation & iMinds organize Difference Day in the

Brussels Centre for Fine Arts. This event has the potential to become a yearly tradition.

On May 3rd speakers will draw your attention to press freedom as a fundamental democratic

right. It situates press freedom within a wider democratic climate of freedom of speech and of

respect for the diversity of opinions.
